Extend iPhone Battery Life

How to Extend iPhone or iPod Touch Battery Life

I'll just be sharing a few of the things that I do that extend the battery of my iPhone 3G by several hours if not double the battery life. Now most of these things are pretty simple. The main thing I'm going to use here is a Cydia App called SB Settings. Considering that, you'll need a jailbroken iPhone or iPod Touch for most of these tips, follow the guide here.

How to Install SB Settings:
Open up Cydia, and search for SB Setting. When you find it install, after you'll be required to restart you iPhone or iPod Touch. One you restart you can test to see if SB Settings is working properly. To to this sweep your finger left to right on the top status bar.

This is what it should look like if it's working properly, if not just restart and re-install if you need too.

Note: SB Settings will not have a springboard icon.

How to Extend Your Battery Life:

Note: You can access SB Settings from almost anywhere, if your watching a video, playing music, a game, safari, etc.

Once you bring up the SB Setting you will notice several things you can toggle on/off :
  •  3G
  • Bluetooth
  • Brighness^
  • Processes
  • SSH
  • Wi-Fi
Turn off everything you don't need especially 3G and your Wi-Fi, the are huge battery drainers. The Wi-Fi is constantly looking for a signal to connect too.
The next thing to do is adjust your brightness, sure your screen may not look as good but it will stay lit up 2 times longer if you turn down the brightness. Open this up and adjust it as low as you are comfortable with. I use this technique all the time to save my battery life, this tip combined with everything else is incredible.
The best part about SB Setting is that it is so easy to adjust your brightness you can do it in a few seconds, instead of closing everything and then going to settings.....

The processes tab will also do very well, it's similar to the task manager on Windows computers. You'll notice that things like Safari and Mail will run in the background suck up your battery, so check back here ofter and close whatever your not using.
Other Battery Saving Tips:
  • Turn off location service
  • Set the auto-lock to under 2 minutes
